Hive by Endaprime 

Hive is a digital energy simulator that calculates various future scenarios based on municipalities parameters. With the rapid growth of renewable energies, Switzerland's power landscape is undergoing a complex transformation. It has become more challenging to understand correlations and effects and thus to identify opportunities and risks earlier.  

Context

BKW founded Endaprime to simulate the energy system of tomorrow intuitively and interactively. The app's purpose is to demonstrate the impact of expanding renewable energies and the electrification of mobility on the distribution system, energy self-sufficiency, and environmental pollution. 

Challenges

The simulator started with a simple idea to bring to life as a complete solution. And when the 1st interface saw the light of the day, the team knew we had to deliver some complex animations to assist the user's action and attention — however, the real challenge lay in the technical feasibility and the short time I had.

Solution

As we are speaking with live cases or in the short future, it was crucial to show complex concepts such as energy flowing or the source of power added to the system. Most interactions would also integrate some animated KPIs and charts as instant changes were unnoticeable. As an extended project, I also brought their illustrations to life for their landing page and brand.

Motion Concept

With one parameter modifying a handful of data, it was crucial to accommodating the user to the changes via an active easing.

On idle, waves of power illuminate the map. As in real life, the municipality cannot sustain itself from its production sources and will also receive energy from outside.

Animated illustrations

We created modular animated illustrations for the brand to be shown independently and in a more complex landscape.

Conclusion

The product resulted in a gamified interface with great neon visuals and charts.  And an IF Award! My only wish would have been to have more budget involved and thus a longer time working on this project.
